Once upon a time, a crazed robot named Golden Silver named Dr. Brown managed to be defeated by Dr. Brown. Golden Silver’s goal was to drain the power from the planet G-9. After obtaining four Mystical Gems, which served as the power source for the android, Dr. Brown placed them in a sealed container on one of the planet’s moons, where the four Gunstar siblings watched over them. However, many years later, a tyrant named Smash Daisaku abducted Gunstar Green and brainwashed him into divulging the whereabouts of the Mystical Gems. The dictator is getting very close to turning on the Golden Silver program again. With the help of their sister Yellow, the Gunstar twins Red and Blue have to figure out how to put a stop to Smash Daisaku. However, they know their older brother is heading in that direction…
The action-packed shooter Gunstar Heroes has side-scrolling gameplay with a frenetic pace. The player has the option of controlling either the Red or Blue Gunstar, and when doing so, they have access to four primary weapons: Force, which is a quick shot; Lightning, which is a direct shot that can penetrate adversaries; Chaser, which is a homing weapon; and Flame, which is a devastating close-ranged weapon. Fourteen weapons are available to the player, each of which can be created by combining two others. In addition to using ranged assaults, players can engage in melee combat by jumping, sliding, grabbing, and tossing their opponents.
