One year after the occurrences that took place in Mega Man Zero, the hero is thrown into another conflict in which he must save the world. This time, the stakes are even higher. The new commander of Neo Arcadia has managed to manipulate Zero into assisting her, despite the fact that it is not clear what her motivations are. This comes at a time when she finds herself caught between the humans and the reploids.
Zero will need to fight his way through multiple levels in order to solve the problem. He can use the new Chain Rod weapon to grapple onto ledges and gain an advantage, whether it be in terms of collecting items that are out of reach or engaging enemies from a higher vantage point. Once more, Cyber Elves can be gathered in order to acquire some helpful powerups by following the instructions provided in the game.
The series now includes an additional two-player challenge mode that can be played. In this game mode, the victor is the player who completes the stage faster than their opponents.
