In Super Monkey Ball 3D, players control monkeys inside transparent spheres. The player’s task is to guide them through a maze. The puzzle mode challenges players to collect fruits and reach the goal before time runs out. Meanwhile, the racing mode offers competitive tracks with power-ups and speed boosts. Players can compete with computer opponents or friends in local multiplayer mode. At the same time, they can enjoy both racing and battle modes with similar mechanics. The racing features remind players of other kart games with items and jumps. But the battle mode resembles platform brawlers with arena combat. Both modes support up to four players locally. However, single-player options are still available for solo fun.
