Donkey Kong’s supply of bananas has been stolen by King K. Rool, and he needs your assistance to recover them. The Kremling horde obstructs your search for K. Rool. Kritters, who are defeated by a simple jump on the head, Krushas, who are nearly indestructible, and other crocodile-like Kremlings are among them. Additionally, there are other adversaries that stand in your way, such as beavers, snakes, and vultures. They are led by villainous bosses like Very Gnawty, Necky, Queen B., and Dumb Drum, each of whom blocks the path with their own distinct brand of wickedness.

Diddy Kong joins Donkey Kong; these two primates are very different from one another. For instance, Donkey Kong is typically stronger; he can dispatch the majority of enemies with a single jump and can lift barrels directly above his head to launch them farther. Diddy, on the other hand, is quicker and weaker than Donkey; he can run extremely quickly and perform cartwheels. Diddy defends himself from frontal attacks by carrying barrels in front of him.

The game is divided into various worlds, each of which is further divided into various levels. There are bonus areas on each level where one can gather bananas, medallions, and lives. Each world has a boss at the conclusion, who is typically a bigger version of a minor foe.

Later, Nintendo handheld systems received the original Super Nintendo game. A unique level (Necky Nutmare) and extra bonus games, Funky’s Fishing and five Crosshair Cranky minigames, are only available in the Game Boy Color version. Additionally, there were collectible DK sticker packs strewn about the levels. The Game Boy Printer could be used to print out these sticker packs. After completing the game, two additional difficulty settings are made available. The player can turn off DK barrels by winning the game once, and checkpoint barrels can be turned off by winning the game twice.

Additionally, the Game Boy Advance edition included bonus games. It still has Funky’s Fishing, but now Candy’s Dance Studio, which features six dance games, has taken the place of the crosshair-themed games. A harder difficulty setting called Hero Mode (in which only Diddy Kong can be used and in which Donkey Kong barrels and checkpoints are no longer available) and a time attack mode called DK Attack have also been added. The Gameboy Color version’s sticker book concept has been replaced with the goal of compiling scrapbook pictures.
