Chibi-Robo is a rechargeable four-inch-tall robot whose sole purpose is to make its owners happy. Chibi-Robo, accompanied by its chatty guide Telly Vision, makes its way through the dysfunctional Sanderson household, doing its best to make everyone happy. It won’t be easy – their daughter thinks she’s a frog, the wife is furious at the husband for wasting money and forces him to sleep on the couch, and there are reports of spider-like robots out to destroy Chibi-Robo!
Chibi-Robo!: Plug into Adventure! It is a platform adventure with a twist: players control a small robot whose small size turns ordinary objects like furniture and stairs into monstrous obstacles to overcome. Its battery drains rapidly when not plugged into a wall outlet, and its power consumption rises when it uses tools such as its blaster, copter, or radar. As a result, players must keep an eye on their remaining power and recharge regularly.
The game aims to collect Happy Points to advance Chibi-rank Robo and become Super Chibi-Robo. This can be accomplished by performing simple tasks (such as throwing away trash or cleaning floor stains like muddy footprints) or by making its owners happy, such as by giving Jenny, the frog-obsessed daughter, a rose as a gift. This role-playing aspect of the game is similar to how “love points” are collected in Moon: Remix RPG Adventure.
Like Moon and some of its spiritual followers (such as Giftpia), the game world is populated by rather exotic characters who speak in a vague gibberish language with subtitles displayed on the screen.
