Long ago, a bird-like race of creatures (the Chozo) became highly technologically advanced. Still, as the universe became more violent, they began hiding and living simpler lives. Tallon IV was the location of one of their colonies. A meteor crashed on Tallon IV years later, releasing the strange element Phazon into the planet. Phazon poisoned everything it encountered, causing plants and animals to die or mutate into hideous forms.
The Chozo attempted but failed to control Phazon’s power, and they covered the impact crater with a temple and sealed Phazon into the planet’s core before abandoning it. Space pirates have discovered Tallon IV, who has moved in to study Phazon and harness its power. They’ve also started rebuilding their fortress on Zebes and resurrecting Mother Brain, Ridley, and Kraid, all of whom were killed by Samus Aran. However, Samus has tracked the space pirates to Tallon IV and must now enter the planet to destroy them before they can rebuild their destructive forces completely…
Metroid Prime departs from the platform-adventure series by delving into the first-person shooter genre for the first time. Players are now behind Samus Aran’s visor and must use all their resources to investigate Tallon IV’s pirate infestation. Samus’ beam, which has missile and charge capabilities, can be used by players. Along the way, they must reclaim the bounty hunter’s lost abilities, such as the morph ball and grapple beam, which allows them to explore previously unexplored areas of Tallon IV. Players must piece together the story of the fallen Chozo to discover what happened to the poisoned planet and stop the pirates from using the Phazon to cause havoc worldwide.
