In a scenario that takes place in the not-too-distant future, Japan establishes the Information Self-Defense Force (I-SDF). The establishment of this force is regarded as a breach of both international law and the constitution of Japan, and it contributes to an increase in the tension between Japan, China, and North Korea. Following the establishment of shipping blockades around Japan by North Korea and China, the Japanese government eventually requested assistance from the United States, citing article nine of the Postwar Constitution. During this period, Japan unearthed more and more evidence that the infamous Black Gold Day resulted from information warfare attacks that were carried out on purpose. At the same time that the United States is getting ready to launch the USS Clarence E. Walsh, Third Echelon sends the famous Sam Fisher on a mission that doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the incident, but it could turn out to be the essential part of the whole thing.

For the third time in the series, players assume the role of field operative Sam Fisher in the video game Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. This time, Fisher is equipped with brand-new moves and a new weapon that is always at his disposal: a combat knife. Sam can kill his adversaries or knock them unconscious by utilizing the blade. After each mission, the player is given a summary of their performance. The more preserved lives, the higher the player’s overall success score.

The single-player game is considerably less linear than the previous two entries in the Splinter Cell series. Although players are still required to pass through certain areas in a “tunnel” fashion, with no choice of where to go, there are many instances in which they can choose how they would like to get to their destination. For example, in the caverns, one can kill two foes and cross the bridge or leave them alone, sneak along the side path, and climb a ladder at the end, allowing one to avoid the fight entirely while still arriving at the same destination.

Throughout the game, players will travel to various settings, including a lighthouse, a Japanese tea house, Seoul, New York City during a blackout on the East Coast, and several other fascinating places.

The multiplayer mode, Spies versus Mercenaries, which was available in the game before this one, has been brought back with some new additions. You can choose to play on one of several brand-new, expansive maps or an improved version of a map from a previous game. This model is available on the game’s Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PC versions.
