Nintendo World Cup is an actual soccer ball simulation game released in 1990. Players will enter a team called Dodgeball of Nekketsu High School. Eight students are known as Atsushi, Genei, Hiroyuki, Kunio, Masa, Masahiro, Susumu, and Takashi will be members of the team. They will compete with thirteen teams from different schools, and are expected to bring glory to their school in the national youth championship football tournament.

At the Nintendo World Cup, each team has eight members but only six players are allowed to play, including one goalkeeper, two defenders, one midfielder and two forwards, the other two will have to sit in the position. Players will only control one of the six players on the field but can order the player to take shots or pass the ball back to other teammates in a more favorable position on the field. Unlike in real-world football, players will not commit a foul and there will be no referee in every match. When a ball is lost, the player may steal it again in two ways. The first way is that you will judge the opponent’s ball direction and cut the ball, or the second way you can slide continuously and steal the ball from within the opponent’s feet. In a match, players will have the opportunity to show their special shot skills such as headshots, long-range shots or flips, and shots. Players are allowed to arrange the team according to their liking to match the attacking or defensive kick style. You control the players in a flexible way and create a lot of goals. The football field will not only be the pitch as usual but maybe a sand and ice rink.

The game will have two different game modes, one is tournament mode and friendly match mode. In tournament mode, teams are usually divided into four different groups. The teams in the group will compete in a round-robin round, and find the two teams with the highest scores to progress to the quarter-finals. The winning teams in the quarter-finals will continue to the semi-finals. From there will find the two best teams to compete for the championship in the final. With friendly mode, there will be only two teams facing each other. These friendly matches will help the teams improve their skills and learn about opponents before the tournament takes place.
