The original Gyakuten Saiban game was remade as the upgraded legal procedural game Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. This version includes all of the cases in the Game Boy Advance release, in addition to a fifth case that is longer than any previous ones. While it keeps the same gameplay, it adds many new features exclusive to the Nintendo DS, such as a microphone (which can be used to shout “Objection!” or blow the fingerprint powder). Additionally, the inventory in the new fifth case has been updated to include a feature that allows players to inspect each item in greater detail, as well as a full 3D representation of every object, which can be rotated using the DS stylus or zoomed in on for a more in-depth look.

The first game’s tale ended with Miles Edgeworth being the prime suspect in a murder investigation. However, he was acquitted of all charges by Phoenix Wright, his boyhood buddy who is now a defense attorney. The new case picks up where that story left off. Maya Fey, who worked as an assistant to Wright, also traveled to learn more about the mysterious powers that were naturally innate to her. Phoenix finds himself defending a chief prosecutor named Lana Skye, who is accused of killing a police detective named Bruce Goodman. The new case is dubbed “Rise from the Ashes,” it introduces all new characters. Phoenix is defending Skye. Ema Skye, Lana’s younger sister, is determined to find out the truth about what happened to her sister even though Lana has confessed to the crime she committed and is refusing to provide any information that could help her defend herself. Ema Skye has teamed up with Phoenix to uncover the truth about what happened.
