Although it is the second game in the Trauma Center series to be released for the Wii, New Blood is an entirely new game and is not a transfer of a previous installment in the series. The events of Trauma Center: Second Opinion occur ten years after this game, which stars the same two surgeons, Markus Vaughn and Valerie Blaylock. The plot revolves around an organism known as Sigma, which is a parasite. They perform surgery on Professor Wilkens, an old friend who is affected, but after the procedure, they kidnap him and steal all of his information regarding the disease.

In full co-op mode, players can recruit a teammate to assist them in completing the game’s several complex surgical procedures. The player must use the Wiimote to make incisions, apply antibiotic gel, sew sutures, and unleash the magical powers of the “healing touch” to save the lives of those entrusted to their care. In the Challenge missions, players are given a certain amount of time to treat a predetermined number of patients. The X-missions, which become accessible when the player completes the game once, are also back.

Players can take control of either Markus or Valerie, regardless of whether they play the game solo or cooperatively. Several single-player missions only allow the player to select one of the two doctors. The Healing Touch is performed somewhat differently by each of the two doctors, which is the only significant distinction between them outside some minor alterations to the speech. In a manner analogous to the previous Trauma games, Markus slows down time, enabling the player to treat an overwhelming number of injuries in the allotted time before the patient’s vitals begin to plummet. Valerie allows the player to concentrate solely on performing the procedure by temporarily stopping all of the essential functions of the patient. However, while Valerie’s Touch is active, attempts to increase vitals will be unsuccessful. Additionally, statistics—such as performance rankings—are kept track of in a manner distinct for each doctor, encouraging at least one additional playthrough of each mission.
