Colin McRae and Nicky Grist have parted ways with Ford, and Nicky Grist is no longer driving alongside Colin. As with this entry, which is the fourth in the series, a lot has changed in the world of rally moving since the last game. At this point, the player is free to select the mode of transportation they prefer.
Now based on real-world physics, the game’s controls have seen the most significant improvement throughout the series’ history. This is despite the game’s graphics being upgraded from earlier entries in the series. In the previous games, the handling of the vehicles relied on a single pivot point. The new physics engine, on the other hand, features four pivot points, allowing each wheel to interact with the game in a manner that is independent of the others.
Four types of championships are available: Expert, Group B, 2WD, and 4WD. 2WD is for novices. The following level up, 4WD, presents an intermediate difficulty level for the driver. Group B comprises vehicles from the 1980s that were outlawed in 1986 due to their wild nature and capacity for high acceleration rates. And finally, there is the Expert mode, which is unlocked for players if they have completed 4WD in an advanced way. In this mode, players only have the cockpit view available while driving, and the damage level is set to its maximum.
There are eight national rallies to compete in, and they can be found in the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Finland, Japan, and Greece. In addition, there are over 20 cars to unlock, including the Team Ford Transit van.
