The protagonist of the Hellblazer comic book series published by Vertigo DC is referred to by his given name, John Constantine. The film Constantine, which starred Keanu Reeves, inspired this video game. The participant takes on the persona of Constantine, a wizard, exorcist, and demon slayer operating in the current era. A guy who opposes Evil yet maintains his skepticism and cynicism in the face of Good. Additionally, he is a heavy smoker.

The game is played from a third-person perspective, but it shifts to a first-person perspective if the protagonist is in a confined area. Constantine’s objective is to unravel the mystery of how and why demons have been able to make their way onto Earth even though old rules prevent such activity. He uses various holy weaponry and relics, such as twin revolvers that discharge stones from the Holy Lands (nicknamed the Witch’s Curse), Holy Water Bombs, and the Cross Shotgun. In addition, Constantine can use a wide variety of offensive magical techniques that are by the souls of demons he conquered. To get around barriers, he frequently has to go to Hell, like an eternally burning and deteriorating duplicate of our Earth. Each level is linear and is played in the order it is presented, closely matching most of the film’s plot with a few sections either added or lengthened to accommodate additional action. Discovering cutscene animatics, concept art, and interviews with the film’s stars is only possible via finding hidden cards throughout the levels.
