The Dynasty Warriors series and Devil Kings are similar in style and gameplay. Devil Kings, on the other hand, focuses more on feudal Japan, albeit in a fictional setting, and allows players to employ modern weapons like chain guns and shotguns and battle legendary and mythical figures from the past. This contrasts with Koei’s focus on ancient Chinese history in Dynasty Warriors. In that game, the action takes place in the past.

The story’s plot takes place at a time when the Devil King, a king who the soul of the Devil possesses, has released an unholy army on the world to bend it to his will. The player’s objective is to stop the Devil King and many of his minions, such as the Devil King’s wife, Lady Butterfly, his general, the Red Minotaur, and loyal assassins Scorpio and Venus.

The gameplay is more of an arcade hack-and-slash type, with the ability to employ magic spells to wipe out entire waves of foes. In addition, as was noted earlier, players have the flexibility to use modern-day weapons in addition to historical weaponry like spears, swords, and various other options. Twelve other characters may be used in the game, each of whom has their tale told through CG and anime cutscenes. There are also two different game modes: Conquest, the game’s main story, and Free Mode, in which players can play on any stage that has been unlocked after completing it.

Sengoku Basara was adapted into the video game Devil Kings, which features several substantial changes from the original. The most noticeable difference is that, instead of taking place in feudal Japan, this adaptation takes place in a fantasy realm. As a result, both the level artwork and the story were modified, as well as the characters’ names (which were no longer based on actual historical figures). In addition, fewer playable characters are available (12 as opposed to 16), the difficulty levels are increased, and a new system known as the primer system has been added. The primer attack, one of the special attacks available in the Japanese version, makes the opponent more susceptible to strikes.
