In keeping with the pattern established by the previous Xtreme expansions for the Dynasty Warriors series, Dynasty Warriors 4: Xtreme Legends includes more playable weapons, equipment, and game modes. You can play as any of the 42 characters from the first Dynasty Warriors 4 game, and your goal is to amass a body count of many thousand warriors. It is possible to play the game in conjunction with Dynasty Warriors 4, which will bring new features to the base game, or it is possible to play it through new stages designed for each general.
The aesthetics have been tweaked ever so slightly, and there are now three new game modes: Xtreme, Arena Challenge, and Legend. Additionally, there are two new difficulty levels called Beginner and Chaos. Xtreme features skirmishes that are generated randomly, and players can earn points and use those points to purchase new things. Arena Challenge is all about going head to head against another opponent, whereas Legend is more about analyzing the pros and cons of each particular warrior across 42 stages. The first disc is necessary to play the new material in any of the game’s external modes. The two games use a standard save format for their separate save files.
