Guybrush Threepwood has triumphed over the undead pirate LeChuck and tied the knot with the woman he’s loved since childhood, Elaine Marley. The honeymoon trip was memorable for the happy couple, and now they are heading back home. But as soon as they arrived on Melee Island, they discovered that the island had undergone some bizarre transformations. A mysterious outsider who introduces himself as Charles L. Charles is in the process of putting together a campaign to become the next governor. Ozzie Mandrill, an Australian businessman, is working to develop the Caribbean region as a destination for vacationers. On top of all that, Elaine’s luxurious mansion is about to be torn down! Naturally, it is up to our hero to restore things to their normal state, even if this requires him to go to faraway locations and solve riddles.
The Monkey Island series continues with the fourth installment, Escape From Monkey Island, which is a direct sequel to the previous installment, The Curse of Monkey Island. As in the other parts of the series, the gameplay focuses mainly on puzzles that revolve around the inventory and branching conversations. The user interface is quite reminiscent of that of Grim Fandango; however, instead of using a mouse, the player interacts with the game through context-sensitive commands that pop up on the screen anytime Guybrush is brought close to an object. The game employs pre-rendered backdrops and 3D character models throughout the gameplay.
