The “Association” is a new feature of Franchise mode in this year’s version. Franchise mode includes new simulation models and allows you to manage key team aspects such as weekly training and team bonding.
Franchise mode also allows you to play games on a play-by-play basis, similar to a management game while allowing you to control everything and providing replays to observe what happened.
The game uses the same Iso Motion control scheme as last year’s release but now gives you alternatives based on your player. 2K5 employs a new momentum system that considers the player’s ability while determining what he can do. A short player who can’t dash or jump high may struggle to get many dunks.
24/7, the game’s “story” mode from last year, has returned with several new features. Over a hundred new items are added, including a respect system, the ability to play multiplayer games, and new timed mini-games.
This title, like the others in the 2K5 series, features the standard ESPN presentation, which includes camera angles, follow-cams, stat overlays, and running commentary. Michele Tafoya reports from the sidelines, and Bill Walton, a Hall of Famer, serves as a commentator.
ESPN NBA 2K5 supports online play through Xbox Live (Xbox only) and the PlayStation 2’s online service.
