Heroes of Might and Magic: Quest for the DragonBone Staff is essentially an updated version of New World Computing’s old classic King’s Bounty for the personal computer. The graphics have also been updated. Aside from that, almost nothing else has been altered, and the text has remained virtually unchanged from the initial version.
King’s Bounty was a spin-off of the Might & Magic RPG series, which was still in its early chapters and influenced by board games. For those unfamiliar with the series history, King’s Bounty was a spin-off of the Might & Magic RPG series. The gameplay is quite similar to a more basic version of Heroes of Might and Magic, except that there is only one Hero and no city enhancements. The battles are fought utilizing a turn-based system with a predetermined grid and stacked units.
The game aims to unearth a long-lost relic by piecing together different sections of a map and determining where it is located before the allotted time runs out. Because the player will eventually have to do battle with the sinister Dragon overlord, it goes without saying that they will have built a powerful army by that point.
