Heroes of the Pacific is an arcade aviation game that takes place during World War II in the Pacific theater of the war. Heroes include six different game modes: the Campaign Mode, the Mission Mode, Instant Action, Training, Historical Missions, and Multiplayer.
Within the context of the Campaign mode, the player assumes the role of William Crowe, a young pilot who makes it through the Japanese assault on Pearl Harbor but is tragically separated from his brother. Crowe solemnly oaths to avenge his brother’s death and swears to pursue the squadron responsible for the killing across the significant conflicts in the Pacific. Pearl Harbor is the starting point for the player’s journey. It takes them to Wake Island, the Marshall Islands, the Coral Sea, Midway, Guadalcanal, the Gilbert Islands, the Marianas Islands, the Philippines, and eventually, Iwo Jima.
Players are rewarded with new aircraft as they progress through the several campaigns. These aircraft include fighters, dive-bombers, torpedo bombers, and medium-bombers. At the game’s beginning, the player is only given access to the most fundamental soldiers, such as the Warhawk and the Wildcat. They are rewarded with additional planes as they go through the campaign by completing tasks and making progress.
The video game includes more than thirty renowned planes, some of which include the F6F Hellcat, P-38 Lightning, TBF Avenger, F4U Corsair, B25 Mitchell, P-51 Mustang, Seafire, A6M Zero “Zeke,” J2M Raiden “Jack,” Ki-84 Hayate “Frank,” ME262, and FW190.
The final assault on Iwo Jima, the volcanic fortress island under Japanese control, brings together the battle in the Pacific and William Crowe’s drive for revenge. The Japanese rule Iwo Jima.
