The dancing game in The Groove is comparable to the games in the Dance Dance Revolution series. The player must keep their footing while watching arrows scroll up on top of a music video and then walk on the dancing mat where the arrows correspond to progress through the game. If the player succeeds, the combo meter will begin to fill up; if they miss too many times, the game will be over. The ability to modify one’s arrows is what sets this game apart from others. The game’s difficulty can be adjusted by changing the needles, which might result in the player having a more accessible or more challenging time with things depending on whether the hands spin, hop, or have higher speed.

The game features several modes, including* Dance Mode, allowing the player to use either one (Singles) or two (Doubles) dance pads as they play. Players can play through one to seven songs or an endless number of pieces if the event option is chosen.

  • Battle Mode is a mode that allows the user to compete against either another player or an opponent controlled by the game’s computer. Both players have access to the same life bar and combo gauge with three different levels. Suppose one of the players manages to fill the combo gauge. In that case, the other player will have a random arrow modifier applied to their gameplay. And the more significant the alteration that will be introduced, the higher the level of the combination gauge was when it was checked. The player who finishes a song with a higher life bar total is the victor in this competition.
  • Players can select music from several pre-packaged collections in the game’s Marathon Mode. The players must successfully play through four or five of these songs in a row. The songs can be played with the Normal or the Intense difficulty setting, with the Intense location making the songs more challenging to play. Defeating a collection of songs unlocks different pools from which to pick.
  • In Fitness Mode, players enter their current weight and choose a weight loss target. After that, users can choose a song, a collection of songs, or an indefinite number of pieces at random. The game keeps track of the number of calories that are burned throughout the play.
  • The player can practice any section of the song while in the Practice Mode. There is also an interactive tutorial video that the player can access while playing the game to help them get started.

Over seventy songs are included in the game, each of which can be played on one of four or five different difficulty settings (Novice, Easy, Medium, Hard, and Expert). The scores of each player are likewise recorded and kept track of by the game.
