The popular anime series Sorcerous Stabber Orphen, which was known outside of Japan simply as Orphen, served as the inspiration for this video game. Orphen, his apprentice Majik, traveling companion Cleo and her pet dog/magical wolf Leki, and two naughty trolls named Volkan and Dorton set sail for the fabled island of Chaos in search of money and treasure. Orphen and his traveling companions are not the only ones involved in this fascinating adventure; also accompanying them are three people they have never met before. The intense dark sorcerer Orphen is the only one who, in his characteristic bemused fashion, has a chance of figuring out what connections there are between the three strangers and the powers that rule the island, as well as keeping himself and his allies alive long enough to find a way off of the temporary Chaos Island.

Scion of Sorcery, the action component of Orphen, also contains some role-playing game aspects. Orphen is an evil sorcerer who fights his foes with a variety of spells, one of which involves a magical sword and elementals. The player takes on the role of a third-person observer peeking over Orphen’s shoulder while playing the game. You will engage in boss encounters that need you to utilize puzzle-solving and timing abilities. You will level up your dark magic as you run, jump, and explore across enormous stages on Chaos Island in various locales. You will also level up your dark magic as you engage in boss battles. After you have conquered the game, it will entice you to play it again by allowing you to take other paths through the plot than you did the first time. The anime’s atmosphere is preserved in the video game, particularly in the humorous bantering between the characters. The entirety of Orphen: Scion of Sorcery is performed through voice acting.
