The RTL Winter Games 2007 is the sequel to the RTL Winter Games 2006 video game, which simulated 13 events in seven different disciplines: alpine skiing, ski jumping, sled, biathlon, ice skating, and curling, the latter of which was explicitly added for this version of the game.
The basic controls are similar across the board. They consist of guiding the athlete in the appropriate directions and hitting a button to cause them to act, such as jumping. The shooting portion of the biathlon and the skating event are two notable exceptions to this rule: in the former, the player must shoot targets using a wobbling cursor, and in the latter, the controls are similar to those found in typical rhythm games, in which arrows fly in from one side of the screen, and the player must press the button that corresponds to that direction at the appropriate time. Both biathlon, in which a player has to monitor his exhaustion levels, and curling, which can be defined as a tactical game by its very nature, contains aspects of strategy.
In the single-player mode, you compete in a series of tournaments, each featuring seven to fifteen randomly selected specializations. The player also can organize their competitions if they so choose. In addition, there are 43 mini-missions for the player to complete, each beginning with a specific scenario and a predetermined goal. Also brand new are the assistance functions that demonstrate precisely when to push which buttons or demonstrate the optimal path of motion.
