The video game Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked is based on the television show of the same name and features characters like Mugen, Jin, and Fuu from the front, in addition to a character that may be unlocked in the game, which was explicitly designed for it. The basic plot remains the same: the player must go on an adventure in the land of Enzo, which is now known as Hokkaido, to find a samurai master, but along the way, they will encounter dangerous enemies, including masked assassins, mercenaries, mythical monsters, and even gangster monkeys. In addition, each game’s playable character has a conclusion to the story.
The gameplay is designed to feel like hip-hop, with the fighting engine related to the game’s music. Players can select from a variety of hip-hop rhythms, which in turn determines the combo that they will utilize. For players to use these grooves, they will need to visit a town’s shop and purchase records to bring into battle with them. Each record has its special attack, activated by pressing a particular button combination specific to that record and that record alone. The same American voice actors who worked on the dub of the anime show in the United States also provided their voices for the video game.
