In this chapter of the Serious Sam series, Sam faces off against a new enemy known as “Mini Sam.” Mini Sam is a villainous clone of the hero Sam “Serious” Stone. Mini Sam has seized control of the timelock and is traveling back in time to eradicate ancient civilizations; it is up to Serious Sam to put a stop to him and retrieve the timelock from his possession.
The game takes the player through over 40 stages in three historic places; Ancient Rome, Feudal China, and Legendary Atlantis. The online multiplayer component of the PS2 version supports up to 8 players via the broadband adapter and allows two players to compete locally on a single console. On the other hand, the GameCube version supports four players locally on a single unit of GameCube hardware.
Modes like Deathmatch, Hold the Flag, and Pass the Bomb are available for competitive multiplayer play. The whole single-player campaign may be played cooperatively, allowing two players to work together to defeat the savage forces commanded by Mental and Mini-Sam. This mode is only available to play on a PC.
