You take on the smuggler role, just as the game’s name says you should—a person who smuggles and transports illegal firearms, illicit drugs, or other materials. Because you have unlawful items, you are a high-priority target for law enforcement. A target for the authorities, a target for competing traffickers and gangs, and a target for the increasingly militarized troops of the United States.
You stand a good chance of making a significant profit if you can make it through the high-speed chases, the off-road evasion, the gunfire, and the dust. Perhaps enough to equip your vehicle for your next attempt to smuggle contraband. Something that will make the following run slightly safer than the last one.
There are approximately 30 different missions spread over three vastly different environments in all. Massive in every meaning of the term, as you can drive anywhere inside the game’s locations… yet you can also get lost. The Smuggler’s Run series, Grand Theft Auto 3, and Vice City extensively use this gameplay type.
