Within the context of the conflict between Sparta and Rome, you assume the character of a Spartan warrior and are thrust into the battle to win your independence.
The gameplay is similar to an arcade game centered around completing missions. Throughout each operation, you will be tasked with accomplishing a series of smaller objectives, such as eliminating enemy generals, escorting sappers to detonate enemy siege artillery, and stopping the enemy from penetrating your territory behind your lines. Cutscenes advance the narrative and are displayed during downtime between missions.
You will be awarded “tokens” proportionate to the degree of success you achieve in your quest. These tokens can improve your character’s health, damage, or power. The player can perform unique moves, which can be discovered through the game. Some of the player’s special skills get their powerful capabilities from the Spartan gods, who also assist the player during battle. Throughout the game, you will encounter various weaponry, including swords, bows, spears, and shields.
