Crisis Zone is a spin-off from the Time Crisis series of video games, and the PlayStation 2 version of the game is a port of the arcade game of the same name. You are a member of an elite anti-terrorist organization known as Special Tactical Force in the game. You have been tasked with combating a terrorist organization known as U.R.D.A. The terrorist organization has taken control of an office building and intends to destroy the nuclear reactor buried a significant distance below the facility. You are the one who must put an end to it.
The gameplay is the same as the rest of the series, in which you take cover and try to destroy the adversaries in a short area before a certain period expires. The time limit resets after you complete a place and move on to the next one in the game. It is a rail shooter, meaning you do not have control over the player’s movement. Instead, your character walks down a line that has been predetermined, and adversaries will leap into the screen to try to hurt you. It would be best to hide behind your shield to avoid being shot, but be aware that doing so will prevent you from firing your weapon.
The PS2 port supports the use of both the G-Con 45 and the G-Con2 light weapons, with the latter accessory often included with the game itself. The Grassmarket District mission, which takes place six months after the Garland Square mission and tasks players with rescuing the daughter of S.T.F. Commander Kessler and clearing the district of any remaining terrorists, is an example of one of how the PS2 port differs from the arcade version. In addition, the PS2 port includes a few small minigames along with the additional mission.
