After assisting the Bunyip Elder in removing the potentially harmful Quinkan from the Dreamtime, Ty returns to his house. But unfortunately, something goes awry, and Ty finds himself in the future by six months! The Quinkan has overrun Southern Rivers, and to make matters even worse, Ty’s absence has led to the dissolution of the Bush Rescue squad in the previous game. It is up to Ty to bring together his team members and prevent Quinkan from releasing the enigmatic Quinking, an evil monster that possesses unmatched levels of power.

The Ty series continues with its third installment, Night of the Quinkan. Players that assume the role of Ty can bite their opponents or launch many boomerangs at a target from a distance. There are various ways in which boomerangs can be personalized: either by switching out the chassis (each chassis comes with its own set of unique abilities) or by attaching unique Bunyip Stones to the chassis of the boomerang. The ability to mix specific stones with others gives players the ability to tailor their attacks to their particular preferences. Some rocks are awarded to the player upon successful completion of a job, while others, in addition to boomerang chassis, can be purchased at the Rang Shop using opals, the in-game currency.

Choose from the Shadow or Extreme Bunyip, which is your regular mech; the Crabmersible, which is a submarine fashioned like a crab; or the Gunyip, which is a fast jet armed with a variety of explosives and guns; these are the robotic mechs that are introduced once more in Ty 3. To get powerups and even more opals, Ty can compete in cart races against the other characters in the game.
