The World Destruction League has emerged as the most important source of entertainment in the gloomy and dystopian future. A television team follows the players as they compete in what the league’s name suggests: destruction. The competitions take place all around the world. The fighters, using their heavily equipped tanks, are destroying each other and laying waste to everything in the surrounding area…
World Destruction League: Thunder Tanks is a tank warfare video game comparable to the BattleTanx series of games and other vehicular combat video games akin to Twisted Metal. The tournament mode is the basis for the game’s single-player content. In this mode, the player chooses a tank and then pilots it through a series of battles against other players. However, the primary focus of the game is on the multiplayer component, which features several different game modes, including deathmatch, capture-the-flag, frenzy (a variant of capture-the-flag in which flags appear at random), and a so-called “domination mode,” in which players are tasked with capturing several tank generators that are dispersed throughout the arena. Each multiplayer mode allows a maximum of four people to compete against one another.
On each of the arenas, a variety of power-ups may be picked up. These include turbo boosts, shields, fire missiles, grenades, mines, artillery, and satellite strike (which allow players to target a specific place in the arena and bombard it with rockets or a focused ion cannon blast), as well as guided missiles, which may be steered through the hall at will.
