Wrath Unleashed is a strategy game containing turn-based and real-time components and action-oriented conflicts comparable to Archon: The Light and the Dark in concept. The gods of the four Elements (Water, Fire, Earth, and Wind) live in an asteroid belt, the only surviving remnant of their ancient world, which has been shattered. The gods are at odds with one another, each attempting to reclaim Gaia’s prized throne. Each deity represents a different alignment, ranging from the most kind to evil: Light Order, Light Chaos, Dark Order, or Dark Chaos. Their armies are made up of magical beings. The player can command any military and lead them to victory through four campaign missions.
In the campaign mode, the units move turn-based over a board of hexagonal areas, each representing a different type of terrain. The main goals of this strategic phase of the game are usually to occupy the other army’s temples or to defeat specific opponents. A fight occurs when two opposing units collide in the same hexagonal space. Battles take place on huge venues and combine real-time strategy with pure action. The player can control individual combatants and engage in arcade-style combat with opponents.
There are two modes available: versus and team fighter. Both remove all strategic components, leaving merely action conflicts. An editor is also featured, allowing users to construct and customize their soldiers and units.
