One year has gone since Kazuma Kiryu, the “yakuza with a golden heart,” overcame his most formidable foe in the previous game. Kazuma has suffered more losses than he could have expected despite his success.
However, incidents from his past continue to haunt him. Before he died, a man he greatly admired, who was like a parent to him, disclosed a dreadful secret. Kazuma must now uncover the mystery once and for all. Caught in the eternal battle between Kantou and Kansai, Japan’s Eastern and Western organized crime groups, he quickly finds other powers on the stage, including a Korean mystery organization that appears to be tied to his past.
Yakuza 2 continues the tale from the previous game with several recurring characters. The basic gameplay concept is also the same – on-foot exploration of urban landscapes, hand-to-hand combat, and role-playing components, similar to what was presented in Shenmue titles. The sequel has various technical upgrades, such as the ability to swivel the camera during fights. It also includes extra side tasks and mini-games, such as pool and mahjong, owning a club, and courting ladies.
