This three-dimensional board game has a series of card-based duels in that players compete against one another. The game is broken up into three different modes: the Campaign Mode, in which you fight your way through all of the levels of the Monster Coliseum on your own; the Free Battle Mode, in which you engage in skirmish matches against foes that you have already defeated; and the Versus Mode, in which you compete against a real-life opponent. You must pick a symbol, give it specifications (based on monster points, action points, and power points), and then purchase a starter kit card deck before you can begin.
In a regular game of a campaign, you begin at the entrance hall, where you are responsible for managing your cards and monsters. To complete a battle, select one of the four zones, each containing five stages, and then prevail over your opponents. Gaining a victory in a match grants access to new monsters. The tactical duels are fought out using a card game format. Both characters begin the game with several health points and a deck of playing cards, and the fight is terminated once one of the health statuses hits zero. You launch an assault against your opponent by calling out monsters and giving those monsters abilities. Using trick cards to achieve offensive and defensive advantages in a game is possible. You have to select a monster willing to go toe-to-toe with you before each duel, and the battle’s outcome is determined by several different elements, including the type of terrain you are currently playing on.
On the game board, every monster has a limited mobility range and an attack range that are exclusive to them. They can gain levels, evolve, or combine with other species to make more powerful beings. The objective is to get the greatest possible rank in the Coliseum, King of Capsule Monsters. After you have completed the previous four regions, the fifth and final location, King Coliseum, will become available to you.
