After dozing off, the player would awaken on an unknown island as Matthew or Norah, depending on their chosen character. The player is greeted by a tanuki, who promises that he will assist them in returning to their original location if they agree to assist him in ridding the Akimi hamlet of the ever-increasing gloom spreading throughout the island and driving the people into a state of sadness.
The gameplay of Akimi Village is comparable to that of the Keflings series, which the same creator created. The player’s avatar or other villagers on the island can be instructed to gather resources for the player. Players also have the option to perform the gathering themselves. Buildings, materials, and other things can all be made using resources. The game aims to rid the island of its oppressive gloom by constructing various buildings to raise the town’s cultural level. This will allow the player to plant radiant trees later in the game. Trees now illuminate a region shrouded in darkness with bright foliage. Because of this, there is now access to additional land on which to construct buildings and an increased population of villagers who are no longer preoccupied with moping around.
