Last Ranker is an iconic game that exemplifies the Japanese role-playing game species. The game was developed by an incredibly experienced crew, each member of whom has previously contributed to creating several significant works for firms based in the Cherry Blossom Nation.

It is not necessary to point out that Minae Matsukawa, the primary producer of Last Ranker, is also responsible for other brands, such as Ace Attorney, which are well-known to owners of Nintendo DS systems. Kazuya Niinou, the mastermind behind Etrian Odyssey and 7th Dragon, works as his right-hand man. The character’s projects were handled by Tatsuya Yoshikawa (Breath of Fire), while the warm-up music was composed by Yoko Shimomura (the author of the Kingdom Hearts game soundtrack). Kazushige Nojima, who was involved in the creation of Last Ranker, is perhaps the most experienced creator of all those involved. Last Ranker is the story of a teenage warrior named Zig. He contributed to developing individual episodes of the Kingdom Hearts brand and Final Fantasy VII, which Square Enix has proclaimed to be the best Japanese role-playing video game of all time.

Zig is a recruit in the army who has just one goal in mind when he signs up: he wants to prove himself to be the most capable fighter. But this will not be a simple task because practically all the guys who live in the universe of Last Ranker have their sights set on the same name. He will receive assistance in this endeavor from the noblewoman Ren, who is working to rehabilitate the reputation of her family as well as the once-great kingdom that her family ruled. An old acquaintance of Zig’s named Phase took on the role of the primary antagonist in this story.

The gameplay of Last Ranker is very typical for jRPGs and is enjoyable. The unique fighting style created by Kazuya Niinou is the single thing that sets her apart from other characters. It gives you more influence over your hero by combining traditional battles fought in a turn-based fashion with action role-playing game elements.
