Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is a historical video game with an open world focused on stealthy gameplay. Desmond Miles goes into a coma after being forced to knife his ally. He then returns to the Animus to retain consciousness. He falls into the Animus through the back door known as the Black Room. He expects to rebuild his fractured thoughts and awaken from his coma there. He can accomplish this by connecting his mind and recalling a critical memory. Along the way, he begins to experience his later recollections of Ezio. After liberating Italy from the Templar danger, the new Grand Master of the Assassin Order reflects on his life as an Assassin, wondering what it would have been like if he had never been one. As a result, Ezio embarks on a pilgrimage to his predecessor’s homeland of Masyaf, which he discovers has been conquered by the Templars. He finds an old relic that is sealed away and can only be unlocked with five keys. The hunt for these seals leads him to Constantinople, where he finds an army of Templars assembling, threatening to destabilize the region. To guide him to discovery and revelation, Ezio must follow in the footsteps of his spiritual master, Altar.

The game follows the open-world gameplay of the series. However, a new tool in this game called the hook blade can be used to zip-line over the city or snag adversaries to tug them in for a combo attack—the hook blade speeds up city navigation by about 30%. Enzio has hundreds of bomb types that he can use in addition to the hook blade. The game also added and expanded on the Templars’ seizure of city districts. While taking a section is comparable to Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, the Templars will attempt to reclaim it. Enzio must defend the seized neighborhoods by playing a tower defense minigame in which he controls assassins from rooftops against waves of Templar soldiers and siege equipment. The game is playable in 3D on all platforms, including PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, with console versions supporting stereoscopic 3D mode for 3D TVs and 2D HDTVs. S3D support is included for all gameplay and cinematics in Revelations.

Multiplayer is also available. The mode expands the fundamentals of Brotherhood’s online methods with new characters and settings. Players can customize their appearance and weapons, form a guild and design their coat of arms. Matchmaking and the user interface have also been updated. In addition, as players level up in the multiplayer game, they advance in their Abstergo Templar rank and gain access to more information about the organization.

New multiplayer modes, such as “story-oriented quests” and Capture the Flag, are introduced to existing ones. Rhodes is the setting for some multiplayer maps. Deathmatch is one of the new additions, and it differs in that no compass is pointing toward an assigned target; instead, the current target is displayed in a box on the top right of your screen. When the character is in sight of the target, it lights blue.
