A series of video games known as Backyard Sports have been made available for gaming consoles and personal computers. The fact that it involves miniature versions of famous professional athletes, such as Albert Pujols, Paul Pierce, Barry Bonds, Tim Duncan, Clint Mathis, Kevin Garnett, Tom Brady, Alex Rodriguez, Joe Thornton, and Andy Macdonald, is the primary reason why the series has become so well-known. The major professional sports leagues in the United States, including the MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLS, have all been granted licenses for the Backyard Sports series. Backyard Baseball, Backyard Basketball, Backyard Football (American football), Backyard Soccer, Backyard Hockey (Ice hockey), and Backyard Skateboarding are the individual installments that make up the series. In the games, players build a team that includes both Backyard Kids and professional players, which they then take through a season in the “Backyard League” to win the league championship. Beginning with Backyard Football (1999), players can build their athletes. A further component of the games is the utilization of Power-Ups, which grants the player the opportunity to acquire “super-abilities.” For instance, “Super Dunk” enables a basketball player to perform a tremendous slam from practically any place on the floor, “Leap Frog” allows a football player to jump over the entirety of the defensive line, and “Ice Cream Truck” causes the other team to be entirely distracted for a limited amount of time. The ScummVM emulator makes some games playable, but not all of them.[1]
