Band Hero is a karaoke/rhythm-based game, similar to the Guitar Hero games. Still, it is aimed at the pop-loving teenage demographic and a more group-centered party game (unlike guitar hero, complete band instruments are included from the beginning of the series). In addition, Band-Hero is a game that is similar to the Guitar Hero games.

The instruments are the same as in more recent installments of the GH series. You have access to a microphone for singing, guitars from which you can choose to play lead or bass guitar, and drum sets for accompanying yourself on drums. As a consequence of this, every instrument in the game has its own ‘career’ route.

If you are in charge of providing the vocals for your band, you need to be able to sing in time with the music while coming as close as you can to matching the pitch. Holding down the fret buttons and strumming the guitar simultaneously as the proper fret icons cross the strike line on the screen is how you play lead and bass guitar. The drums are played analogous to the guitars by striking the appropriate drum pads and cymbals at the correct times. If you perform better, you will receive a higher score; however, if you make an unacceptable number of errors, you will not pass the song.

You can play any of the instrument careers either by yourself or with up to three friends on a single console or online, competing against other players and bands worldwide.

The songs “Rio” by Duran Duran, “American Pie” by Don McLean, “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence, and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen are some of the ones that are featured.
