Hideki Kamiya is the creator of the action game known as Bayonetta. After sleeping for five hundred years, a witch named Bayonetta awakens to find her foes waiting for her. Bayonetta must fight through the city of Vigrid while her memory returns to find out who she is and why she is being attacked. She has no idea why she is being attacked or why she is being attacked.
Bayonetta can transform her hair into any shape she desires and emplemploys this ability to her foes. In addition, she is armed with four firearms, including two handguns and two concealed on her heels. The guns Bayonetta uses can be switched out for any other weapons available at any point in the game. Weapons can be purchased or looted from killed foes; however, only purchased weapons can be upgraded; stolen weapons are simply temporary substitutes for the original weapon.
The gameplay includes a slow-motion effect known as Witch Time, which may be triggered by dodging at just the right moment during a fight. Bayonetta can launch a counterattack against her foes in this mode before they can defend themselves.
