Beautiful Katamari is the series’ first game to be released on a Microsoft system. The gameplay is similar to previous editions in that the player takes control of a prince who rolls Katamari for the King of All Cosmos. During a game of tennis, the king inadvertently destroyed the universe, and a black hole is sucking up all matter. The prince must assist in restoring the galaxy by rolling Katamari in various tasks. The Katamari can only pick up smaller objects, but when more are gathered, its size expands.
The main menu area has been transformed into a princedom, a galaxy where the prince can roam around, talk to people, and select one of the quests. There are new cousins, a photo mode, new levels, and statistics.
Various modes are available to continue the multiplayer choices established in Me & My Katamari. Offline, users can fight each other or collaborate by controlling a single Katamari (one analog stick per player). Up to four people can battle online in several game types with leaderboards and a primary lobby. The goal can range from making the largest katamari possible to constructing it from specified elements as instructed by the king.
