Blacklight: Tango Down is a multiplayer first-person shooter that can only be played online. It revolves around a conflict between two military factions: Blacklight and The Order. Colonel Klein and his squad of Blacklight operatives are sent in to investigate the disappearance of one of their own, Colonel Klein. Traces rapidly point to The Order, a rebel group of ex-US special troops and local militia with access to high-tech military technology. The game is divided into four Black Ops missions (connected to the story) that may be played alone or collaboratively (with up to four players) and regular multiplayer matches across 12 maps in seven-game styles.
With 70 levels, the game has a ranking system similar to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Players gain access to skill and experience points as they progress and equipment to customize their weapons, such as magazines, muzzles, weapon tags, and stocks. All items are kept in an Armory, where various weapon configurations can be saved. Players can also customize their grenades, equipment loadouts, character armor, and camouflage. Ammo and health may be replenished while playing at various locations around the planet.
Players have access to a vast array of weapons and high-tech gadgets, such as a Hyper Reality Visor, which gives real-time battlefield intelligence and allows players to see past walls using different colors for allies and opponents. This can be countered with Digi grenades, which cause errors in the view, and EMP grenades, which put the enemy visors through a reboot sequence.
Deathmatch, team deathmatch, retrieval (capture-the-flag with a data canister), detonate (similar to bomb placement in Half-Life: Counter-Strike), domination (grabbing and controlling specific points), last man standing, and previous team standing are the different multiplayer modes.
