Blazing Angels is an arcade air combat game that puts the player in charge of a fighter squadron during WWII. It’s a pick-up-and-play game with straightforward controls and an almost non-existent learning curve.
The action spans the most pivotal stages of WWII, from the Battle of Britain to the bombing raids over Berlin, but also warps history to create some amusing though fictitious moments (for example, you get to fly over Normandy on D-Day, save the day at Pearl Harbor, and so on). Despite a basic dogfighting approach, the gameplay is rather varied, with roughly 18 flyable planes during the SP campaign (fighters, recon planes, dive, torpedo, and level bombers) and numerous duties and locales that keep the game from being too repetitive. The fundamental squadron command structure and the wingmen’s specialized talents add a tactical element to the game.
Solo (Dogfight, Seek and Destroy, and Aces High), co-op (Dogfight, Onslaught, Bombing Run, Kamikaze, and Historical Missions), and squad-based (Dogfight, Capture the Base, Bombing Run, and Kamikaze) multiplayer modes are available.
