Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! is the series’ third main game. Like the other titles, it provides a variety of worlds with procedural content and free exploration. Experience is collected by completing quests to distribute skill points and construct a character using aspects of role-playing games through skill trees. Loot, particularly various varieties of firearms, plays an essential function in supplementing the character route. The plot occurs between the first and second games, specifically between the DLC items The Secret Armory of General Knoxx and Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution. It depicts the story of Handsome Jack, the main antagonist of Borderlands 2. It is told as a flashback by Athena following the events of Borderlands 2 when she is apprehended and interrogated by Lilith. She joined forces with three vault hunters to travel to the Hyperion moon base Helios, but they are ambushed and crash-land on the moon base. Most of the game occurs on Pandora’s moon Elpis, then Helios.
There are four characters to choose from, all of whom were previously non-player characters in earlier games. Athena, Claptrap, Nisha, and Wilhelm are their names. They each represent a separate class, each with its skills and powers. The gameplay is similar to that of the previous games. Low gravity now affects leap height and causes bodies and loot to float away when battling on the moon’s surface. O2 kits are used for air supply and can be supplied by adversaries via vents, generators, and tanks. The kits can also be employed for movement and combat, such as a jet pack, hovering, double jumping, and landing with a ground smash. Like other goods in the game, kits with perks come in a wide range. In addition to the existing item types, two new ones have been added. Laser weaponry (beams, blasters, railguns, etc., with low recoil) and items with a cryogenic elemental effect are introduced in the game. The latter is employed to slow or freeze adversaries, allowing them to be smashed with a melee strike. Another feature of the game is the Grinder machine. Three weapons of similar rarity can be deposited there to earn a better, rare weapon. It functions in the same way as recipes do in fantasy RPGs. Some weapons from the second game, such as the Slag weapons, are now unavailable in this game. New vehicles include the Stingray hoverbike and the Moon buggy.
It can be played offline and online in single-player or cooperative mode, just like the previous games. Athena, Claptrap, and Wilhelm all have abilities that assist the whole team. After completing the game, the True Vault Hunter mode, similar to the second game, becomes available, urging a new playthrough to collect the higher-level material.
