Siblings is a cooperative single-player game in which the player controls two siblings individually and simultaneously. The game begins in the village of the two young brothers. Their mother drowned in the water, and their father is ill. The two set out in search of the Water of Life, which is claimed to have the ability to cure their father. Both boys’ movements and behaviors are controlled individually. The game weaves sequences in which the brothers must solve challenges by assisting one another, such as pushing levers, dragging goods, distracting threatening figures, or using a catapult, not by manipulating them independently but frequently by controlling both simultaneously. In addition to locomotion, they can climb, hang from ledges, and slide down. There are a few adversaries along the road, but they cannot be directly fought. Instead, a more creative approach is required.
To progress, the game emphasizes exploration, particularly environment-based puzzle-solving. Using a fixed camera, the game is portrayed in the third-person, often from a distance or above. The level layout is linear, with only one path to progress. It also includes segments unrelated to the main objective in which the brothers enjoy the fun together to set the tone. The setting is fantasy-like, with many locations such as villages, mountains, a sequence in which they sail by boat across a river, a frozen landscape, and so on.
