Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway is the third installment in the Brother in Arms series, following four months after “Operation Overlord.”

The player takes command of Staff Sergeant Matthew Baker and his squads as they participate in “Operation Market Garden” once more. On September 17, 1944, three airborne divisions were dropped behind enemy lines into the Netherlands to secure numerous bridges, one of which was Matt Baker’s outfit, the 101st Airborne Division. The game follows him and his unit as they assault and ensure Eindhoven and defend the surrounding area against German counter-attacks.

As in previous games, the player commands his squad around the battlefield from cover to cover, instructing them to suppress the enemy and plotting a flank attack to take out the enemy position, always progressing to the next objective. But, to add some spice, there isn’t just an assault team waiting to be managed. Some missions grant players access to more specialized machine guns or bazooka teams. The latter is beneficial because the cover may be destroyed with enough firepower. Further assignments exist in which the player controls a tank or must finish the objective independently.

Similarly to Rainbow Six: Vegas, the player can now perform “Dig in” at each cover. This will change the camera to the third person and render the character immune to opponent attacks (as long as the body is not destroyed). From here, he can blind fire or glance over the body to get the kill, thanks to the updated combat system, which no longer relies on flanking the enemy because every part of an enemy can now be struck if it’s visible. If the player takes a stunning shot (for example, a long-distance headshot), the game turns to a slow-motion action cam, displaying the hit in all its gory detail. Another difference is the new healthcare system. Instead of a fixed amount of health, the characters replenish health automatically if not under attack.

The game also includes a team-based multiplayer mode for up to 20 players in which teams must either take or defend flag points or eliminate the whole enemy to win the round.
