The single-player campaign “For the Record” in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 begins five years after the previous game’s events in the series, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The threat of total annihilation looms once more over the entire earth. The Americans won the battle against the Russians initially, but now the Russians have made Zhakaev a hero and are posing a new threat to global peace. Worse, they enlist the assistance of a well-known terrorist who does all in his power to let the tension develop into an all-out conflict. The player is located in the center. Throughout his operations, he would assume the role of PFC. The protagonists of the first game are Joseph Allen, Sgt. Gary “Roach” Sanderson, a member of Task Force 141, and Captain “Soap” McTavish, the task force’s captain.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, like its predecessor, is a first-person shooter that offers a single-player experience that is very linear but also extensively scripted and focused on action.
