Capsized is a 2D platformer in which an astronaut’s spaceship explodes. The crew members escape, but their escape pods crash on an unknown planet. The goal is to reconcile the astronaut with his team and find a means for him to escape the space station. The planet’s ecology is lush, with strange life forms and deep rainforests. The user must direct the space traveler through twelve missions in the primary campaign mode. Although objectives are linear, such as rescuing crew members, destroying idols that block radio transmissions, or eliminating alien spiritual leaders, there is some freedom to choose a route because of the significant number of vertical designs.

Exploring the landscape is a significant aspect of the game. There are optional secret sections to examine and tiny physics puzzles to solve. The astronaut can interact with various background components, not all deadly. The user can maneuver the space traveler around, leap (in addition to using walls), and climb ledges. He can also fire a beam that works as a grappling hook, allowing him to access higher platforms, traverse gaps, and drive himself aloft. A limited amount of jet pack boost is also delivered via a power-up. Rubbish, stones, timber, and vegetation obstruct many paths. These can be hoisted up and hurled away using a beam. A flashlight is also included for exploring dark places.

When confronting extraterrestrial life forms, movement is equally crucial. Because of their numbers and strength, training is essential to rush and attack from all angles. The beam can raise materials like stones, employ them as shields or launch them toward the aliens (gravity ram). The primary weapon is a blast carbine with unlimited ammo and a weak laser. Other weaponry in the set includes a machine gun-like pulsar, an immolator (akin to a flame thrower), a plas-mortar (grenade launcher), and a nano caster (rocket launcher). All of these have a limited supply of ammo. There are also temporary power-ups such as shields and nanorobots that attack enemies.

Only a certain number of lives are available, but fresh ones can be acquired. When the spaceman dies, he respawns nearby, but the level must be redone when all energies are depleted.

In addition to the campaign mode with several difficulty levels, the arcade mode includes the following game types:* Bot match.

Trial by time
Survival Armless Duel Multiplayer allows two players to compete locally on a single screen. There includes both a cooperative and a deathmatch mode. The iPad version lacks multiplayer and has new controls. The Xbox 360 version includes improved graphics and new levels.
