In this sequel to Lords of Shadow and its 3DS sequel Mirror of Fate, players take control of Gabriel Belmont, now known as the Prince of Darkness, Dracula.
Dracula is visited by his old “friend” Zobek, who brings bad news one thousand years after his victory over the Lords of Shadow and Satan himself. Satan is on his way back, and only Dracula can prevent him and his henchmen from destroying the world. If he succeeds, Zobek promises to lift the curse of immortality from him. But before confronting Satan’s acolytes, Dracula must regain his former powers.
Lords of Shadow 2, like its predecessor, blends exploration of 3D worlds (now with complete camera control), melee fighting, and platforming segments. Lords of Shadow 2 has a semi-open structure, similar to Symphony of the Night, rather than a straight progression of levels. The game alternates between sequences set in modern-day Wygol City, where Dracula attempts to hinder Satan’s acolytes’ activities and dreamlike excursions to Dracula’s castle. The Prince of Darkness must traverse the now-hostile fortress to find his lost powers and other improvements.
New gameplay elements include a new set of weapons and powers for the protagonist, such as the Void Sword, which can drain the health of adversaries, and the Chaos Claws, which can damage shields/armor and other destructible items. Dracula can also use vampire powers to recover his health, such as turning into a plague of rats during stealth moments.
