Q? Entertainment’s Child of Eden is a rhythmic, aesthetically expressive shooter, essentially a spiritual successor to Q? Entertainment’s iconic shooter, Rez.

Story

Child of Eden, like Rez, is about a hero (the player) journeying inside a virtual world, or technological inner space, to confront technological baddies. The tale below is about Lumi, a woman who became the first human born in the area on the International Space Station on September 11th, 2019. Her memories and what defined her were captured and stored after her death. Two hundred years hence, the gathered memories, and essence, so to speak, are replicated within the limits of Eden–the future term for the internet. And it is here that all of human history is contained.

Lumi and Eden, on the other hand, are threatened by “viruses” and creatures within Eden, and it is up to the player to journey into this world and save both Lumi and Eden as a whole.

Gameplay

Again, those who have played Q? Entertainment’s groundbreaking Rez will recognize much of this material. The game “flies” through rails-style stages, firing and targeting a variety of wonderfully inventive and colorful adversaries. The critical difference is that Child of Eden was designed from the bottom up to take advantage of the power in modern systems, and it is particularly well-suited for motion control. On Kinect, for example, players target enemies by swiping over them with their right hand’s reticule and launching strikes by thrusting that hand toward the screen. The left-hand controls a purple homing laser that defends against opponent strikes while lifting both hands unleashes the powerful “Euphoria,” a sizeable screen-filling attack.

The game has five stages, leaderboards, and a plethora of unlockables, such as visual and sound filters that may be used to modify and change the gameplay. There are also unlocked art and video galleries and other objects to increase gamers’ replay value. Purification rates (% of enemies cleared) and star ratings for each stage are also measured by steps. Each stage playing is rated from one to five stars, and the stars accumulated are utilized to unlock the settings.
