The player assumes the part of Cthulhu, the monstrous entity from the mythos created by H. P. Lovecraft, and attempts to drive his enemies insane. At the story’s beginning, Cthulhu is subjected to a curse that limits his powers. For the curse to be lifted, he must fulfill the role of a true hero and rescue all of humanity. After that, he may continue his business as usual and destroy it according to his initial strategy.
The older role-playing games from the 8-bit and 16-bit eras inspire the spoof video game Cthulhu Saves the World. The gameplay is reminiscent of the earlier entries in the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series, featuring a top-down view of the environment and a turn-based combat system. The game includes random encounters with enemies, battles against bosses, and multiple members of your party. Players choose between two paths for their character’s development, which diverge with each new level.
