The action-adventure game Darksiders II is the follow-up to Darksiders. In the first game, War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse traveled to Earth after losing his abilities and being duped into starting a war between Heaven and hell. This game takes place in a parallel universe to that. His brother Death, who is sure of his innocence, embarks on a mission to raise humanity from the dead and establish his brother’s innocence. He moves through many lands and locations to correct the errors and kill the culprits.

The third-person hack-and-slash gameplay is reminiscent of the first game. The environments comprise vast open spaces with dungeons leading to other places. The distances can be covered by Death on foot or by riding his horse, Despair. The crow Dust is another entity that assists in locating goals. Through a key or button, the player can access both.

Additionally, fast travel is possible, and from inside a dungeon, you can return to the overworld and save your progress there to continue later.

Along with the action, there are still a lot of environment-based puzzles to solve that involve moving levers, tiles, pressure plates, doors, and portals to advance.

Along with exploring and navigating the world, much time is spent swimming, running along walls, and climbing using fixed points. Death is significantly more agile and capable of acrobatic maneuvers than War was in the original game. Similar to the first game, several more mechanics are unlocked along the journey, including the Voidwalker portal pistol and the Death Grip grappling hook. Interdiction and Soul Splitter are additional powers that can be used to command other characters, frequently to solve riddles. Prominent boss characters with QTE-finishing moves can be found in many stages.

Dual-wielded scythes, frequently upgraded over time, are Death’s primary weapons, coupled with a variety of auxiliary melee weapons that may deliver a variety of powerful but slow or swift but lightweight assaults. Attacks comprise a lock-on system, striking, dodging, and blocking. Later abilities can also call ghouls that fight with you and can be manipulated to explode when their health is low, or you can choose to use ranged weapons. Together with a broad experience meter, the three primary resources are health, Wrath, and reaper. Reaper enables Death to change into his grim reaper form, which has significantly more potent attacks, and Wrath is used to trigger special powers. Similar to the original game, there is a minor role-playing component because eight statistics and the total class level are affected by the experience. A skill point can unlock new skills in two skill trees while raising. Players can get resources and gold by killing monsters, looting chests, or buying from vendors. They can even discover new goods this way. There are separate tabs for armor, boot gloves, the shoulder, and talismans, in addition to the customization pages for the primary and secondary weapons. New movements must also be purchased. Death also reveals weapons that have been acquired and can be improved by sacrificing inferior weapons. Bluestones, buried around the planet, are used to find another resource. There are three different kinds, which can be combined to be sold in sets of three to a character named Blackroot for long-lasting improvements and skills.
