Devil May Cry 4 is the second installment in the series.
This time, the player is cast as Nero, a member of the Order of the Sword who worships Sparda and Dante, the protagonist from the previous games. The game is based on the story of Nero, who witnesses the assassination of the Order of the Sword’s commander, Sanctus, by none other than Dante. The murder generates an uproar, and Sanctus’ deputy, Credo, sends Nero to pursue Dante, who is on his way to Fortuna Castle.
Nero wields a sword (Red Queen), a handgun (Blue Rose), and powers from his Devil Bringer arm, which functions similarly to Dante’s Devil Trigger. They also grant Nero unique abilities such as dragging and pushing foes, slamming them to the ground, and zooming through places. Nero’s gameplay is still hack-and-slash but with new assault styles and methods. Dante appears later in the game for his levels. With four attack styles: Trickster, Sword Master, Gunslinger, and Royal Guard, his gameplay remains unchanged.
The Windows version includes the Legendary Dark Knight mode, which features many foes on the screen, and a speedier Turbo mode. The cutscenes have a frame rate of 120 frames per second, whereas the console segments have a frame rate 30. However, network ranking is not supported.
